Robotics is an emerging technology—and has held the same post for about the last decade. Robots are much more than what movies reveal, and as we advance technologically, robots are capable of learning new features and gaining more humane attributes. In today’s world, robots are more than capable of having their own thought patterns, but scientists and engineers still struggle teaching robots humanities moral philosophies, to ameliorate their decision-making skills.
As scientists progress, robots will soon one day be able to complete all sorts of tasks, even at affordable prices. As of today, one of the best-known robots is Sophia. She is a citizen of Saudi Arabia, but just like every advancement, this was not short of criticism. Robotics is changing in today’s modern world, and several experts and scientists wonder whether our aims from the Science-Fiction world, are feasible.
Today, robots are capable of multi-tasking, and possibly replacing the need of human workers in the future, increasing efficiency, and eradicating wages. Robots are now capable of cooking and assembling things like burgers in as little as 10 seconds, and have even learned to cook omelettes (all the way from cracking the eggs to plating it).
If that doesn’t amaze you, computer scientists and experienced engineers from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, have broken barriers with regards to the bionic eye. A new version of the eye, exceeds the capabilities of a regular human eye, with a 3D retina, and a spherical figure along with its three-dimensional sensors. This technology uses nanowires, mimicking photoreceptors in human retinas. In the future, if technology permits, the nanowires could be linked to neural cords and nerves, instead of using bundles of optic nerve fibres.
Hence we see how robotics has changed over the course of the last decade with even more substantial changes in store for the future, as it remains one of the most obsessed fields of technology.
