On June 3rd Sega officially unveiled the Game Gear Micro. It comes in four different colours yellow, black, blue, and red. Each system variant comes with 4 different sets of games. The system costs around $50 adding up to 16 games for a total of $200. The screen size is 1 inch diagonally. You could buy a magnifying screen for $50 to increase the tiny screen to help ease the eyes. As of right now, there has been no announcement from Sega on whether this will launch outside of Japan.
Many gamers seemed to have confused that announcement as the groundbreaking news but that isn’t the case. Sega announced its alternative to cloud gaming being fog gaming. Instead of using servers to stream games on a particular platform, Sega would instead renovate old arcade machines converting them to data centres, essentially being able to remove cloud gaming’s biggest problem, lag, Sega claims their service can provide low latency(1ms). Unfortunately, these announcements were not perceived well by the gaming community, as fans were told the announcement would shake up and would be the future of the industry but rather turned out to be something small, inaccessible and a huge step backwards compared to the Sega genesis mini.
