Ben Stokes leapfrogs Holder to become top-ranked all-rounder-
Ben Stokes has leapfrogged Jason Holder to the top of ICC's Test Rankings for All-Rounders. The 29-year-old is the first English player to top the all-rounder rankings since Andrew Flintoff occupied that slot in May 2006. Stokes's current tally of 497 rating points is the highest by any Test all-rounder since Jacques Kallis aggregated 517 in April 2008. Stokes began the ongoing Test series against West Indies in second place, trailing Holder by 54 points. After a lukewarm start to the season in Southampton - where Stokes also captained England - England's talisman hit back in Manchester
with a match-winning performance, aggregating a total of 254 runs and claiming 3 wickets from 27.4 miserly overs. The Englishman now leads Holder by 38 points as the teams head into the series decider, also at Old Trafford, later this week. Stokes's century and unbeaten fifty in the second Test have also elevated him to the third spot (tied with Marnus Labuschagne) in ICC Rankings for Test Batsmen, a list currently headed by Steve Smith with Virat Kohli in second place.
Rank Player Team Rating
1 Ben Stokes England 497
2 Jason Holder West Indies 459
3 Ravindra Jadeja India 397
4 Mitchell Starc Australia 298
5 R Ashwin India 281
India is unlikely to get quarantine leniency in Australia
Sourav Ganguly might not want the Indian players to “sit in their hotel rooms for two weeks” when they land in Australia later this year, but it turns out he is unlikely to get his way. It was last week that the BCCI president had spoken about Virat Kohli & Co hopefully having to quarantine for a shorter duration than mandated for everyone else if the Test tour does go ahead during the Australian summer. Cricket Australia's interim CEO, Nick Hockley, though clarified on Tuesday (July 21) that the "two-week quarantine" period was "well-defined" hinting that both the Indian and even the Australian cricketers, who might end up playing in the IPL if it happens, will have to enter a quarantine zone for 14 days once they enter the country.
