The Champions-Real Madrid

The Los Blancos were absolutely clinical in the latter stages of the league, going all 11 games unbeaten since the restart, winning 10 on the bounce, gaining a 5 point lead over their Classico rivals even tho the Catalonian club was 2 points going into the COVID Break. Zidane had promised fans that his team would treat each match as a cup final, and Ramos & co certainly delivered on that promise, bringing home Real’s 34th league title, ending a 3-year wait, it was also their first since the departure of Portuguese talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo. Even though Madrid didn’t have a perfect start to their campaign, struggling with injuries and poor performances against bottom-half sides, they capped off the season beautifully due to their experience and sheer ability to show up and win games, when it matters the most.

Player of the season-Lionel Messi

This isn’t even a surprise to anymore, as along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi is one of the best players of this, and he proved that yet again this season, ending as top scorer with 25 goals, but more importantly, he broke former teammate, Xavi’s record for most assists in a single La Liga season, ending with 21 assists. This was also the first time that Messi had reached the milestone of 20 goals and assists each in a season. Even though his team wasn’t always at their best, this season, Messi remained consistent, showing why he’s the best player in the league, and arguably in the world.

Honourable Mentions-Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos

Goalkeeper of the season- Thibaut Courtois

This is surely one of the success stories of the season, after a disastrous first season at Real Madrid, the Madrid shot-stopper was starting to gain an infamous reputation at the Bernabeu, however, with the turn of the season, Courtois repaid the faith put in him by the fans and manager by showing glimpses of class throughout the season, managing a total of 18 clean sheets, winning the coveted Zamora trophies(given to the goalkeeper with the cleanest sheets), his exploits also helped Madrid set a new record for the fewest goals conceded in a single 38 match season.

Honourable mentions-Jan Oblak and Marc Andre-Terstegen
