Barça Slip In La Liga Title Race

Real Madrid have emerged as the leaders of La Liga following their stern test against Real Sociedad with the league leaders emerging as 2-1 winners following a controversial Karim Benzema winner that sealed the win after the captain, Sergio Ramos converted a penalty to put the Los Blancos in the lead. Madrid moved to the top of the table owing to their head to head record against Barcelona who has the same amount of points. Barcelona had dropped points to 3rd placed Sevilla earlier in the week allowing Real to take pole position, all thanks to their 2-0 win against their fierce rivals in the Classico.

Serie A action returned this weekend with Torino going up against Parma on Saturday, this brought joy back to the Pandemic stricken country, and the return didn’t disappoint at all. League leaders, Juventus increased their lead at the top to 4 points owing to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and a stunning strike off Dybala’s left foot following a heartbreaking defeat to Napoli in the Coppa Italia final after a penalty shootout. Juve fans were relieved to see Ronaldo back on the scoresheet as we reach the final stages of the league with the title race heating up quickly.
UEFA Announce Revamped Format For Conclusion of UCL This Season

Earlier in the week, Uefa announced that the biggest European football competition, the UEFA Champions League is all set to return in the month of August but with a certain amount of changes to its rather sacred format. The ongoing round of 16 fixtures will be completed as originally planned on the 7th and 8th of August but following this, the usual 2 leg knockout rounds have been done away with, for the rest of this season, and all the quarter-finals have been scheduled on consecutive nights from the 12-15th with the semis being held on the 18th and 19th. The winner of this season’s CL will be crowned on the 23rd with all the remaining games set to be held in Lisbon rather than the originally planned Istanbul final.UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has also said there is a possibility that fans could attend the final stages but the situation will have to be assessed at the end of July before a decision can be made.
