For our very first fashion article we will be looking at two of the most prominent brands of the footwear industry today. These brands made a successful cut in the early years of the fashion industry and remain at the top even today
However there is an interesting story behind the success of these two brands. Exactly 70 years ago, Adolf Dassler founded the sports brand Adidas . Only a year after, his brother Rudolf Dassler, created competitor brand, Puma. The two world-renowned brands can be traced back to a now legendary family quarrel, without which neither Puma nor Adidas would exist today.
Originally, the brothers worked together on two-striped sneakers and in 1919 the duo founded Gebrüder Dassler, Geda for short. This shoe factory would take them right through the Second World War!
As both the Brand’s grew bigger and bigger , the tension between the two increased. But, 60 years after the creation of both Brand’s the employees shook hands and played a football game against each other.
In 2019 puma made the Forbes top 40 for the first time,ranking 6th in the business category with a brand value of 4 billion dollars, which is just the value of its name! Multinational sports company, Adidas, is now the second largest sports brand company in the world! It rose from 7 billion US dollars in 2016 to 16.6 billion in 2019!
