Aditya is a solar energy powered ferry boat that can carry 75 passengers in a trip and completes about 22 trips in a day, of a total 66kilomenters.
Aditya has been selected to represent India at the Gustave Trouvé Award and is the only boat from Asia. Aditya was built in 2017by Navalt Solar and Electric Boats and has been operating under the Kerala State Water Department. In the span of three years, it has transported more than eleven lakh passengers and saved over one lakh litres of diesel. The per-day running cost is merely Rs.180, which means the department has saved over Rs.75 lakhs in the past three years.
Aditya has contributed enormously to save the environment. Whereas on the other hand, Assam has suffered terribly due to torrential rainfall leading to 16 deaths and displacing 2.5 lakh people. Over 704 villages and1.5 lakh animals have been affected. Eight rivers including the Brahmaputra have overflowed, increasing the danger for destruction in Assam. Landslides in Assam have killed 21 people making the total death toll 37.
The south prays for the felicitation of Aditya while the North prays for their livelihood. The south protects the environment, and the environment destroys the North.
