On 17th June, India made it to to the United Nations Security Council and was appointed as a non-permanent member for two years under the triumphant representation of T. S. Tirumurti. India has been elected for the seventh time, and this time almost after a decade.

India got elected unopposed from the Asia-Pacific region after Afghanistan gave up their seat. India won 184 votes out of 193 which can be termed a unanimous decision as well. Along with India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway also got elected.

India continues to battle for the permanent membership, while it is being backed by Britain, France and Russia. However, China continues to use its veto power to suppress India and prevent it from becoming a permanent member. Nonetheless, it is a victory for India to be reelected in the UNSC and we eagerly look forward to India’s contribution in the future.
